Here we have listed the order of events for August of 2007. These will be sent out in the Boot Correspondence with an introduciton unlike this one. For now we would only like to plug the downtown Farmer's Market at MacArthur and our Summer menu. Also we would like to mention how fascinated we are with underwater adventure. Until next time.

WED AUG 1, 2007

Liz Durrett | site
Ham1 | site
Jamesmyth | site

Time: 9pm
Tickets: $5

powered by night lights .

Does anyone here know Chan Marshall aka Cat Power? Well Liz Durrett seems to know her well as her style bears an erie resemblance to the revered artist. Not so much with a piano and more the electric guitar, so very beautiful and ethereal in the sense of how you chase solace after explosive emotional jaunts. Its perfect when you get in a fight and you have a car you can speed off down the highway. Hopefully its a Dodge Dart. Ham1 is a mystery. Running that 90s college rock sound but a little bit of fanciful 60s psyche rock. This band owns a lot of Kinks records, like maybe all of them. Good times. Jamesmyth is local piano player/guitar strummer/magician. You should be here if you like seeing people turn notes into songs. Magic!

THUR AUG 2, 2007

The Nobility | site
Show Is The Rainbow | site
Jasper Jars | site
Desert Lynx | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

remember double dribble, 8 bit baby .

Was there ever a time in the 90s when Beck was just starting on and Boston was on some new muff hunt reunion tour and they ended up on the same bill maybe in a Hotlanta Viper Room recreation? Pretty sure I read about it in Maximum Rock n' Roll. Well I thought it would be awesome to try and recreate that for the mid-summer duldroms. no night dreaming for the Bootians. we make the spark and you burn it down. the chemical invade me... just play that over and over. By the way Nobilty is also a traveling baseball team and they accept open challenges to all, you just have to book the field. say what? say what? Actually they write charming little pop anthems and they actually wrote a children's book. Seriously if these guys played the tee ball field I would eat a whole pack of big league chew and pump it hardcore.

SAT AUG 4, 2007

Seed Is... | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

so bigable straight digable .

So many style and so many genres it is amazing they cover it all in one night. People ask what a Seed Is show is like and all you can say is "Have you ever been to a block party?" Its like the dessert table! What do you want? gospel? r&b? hip hop? reggae? funk? soul? rock? be bop? jazz? It's like Revolution 3000 up in here when they hit the stage. It's always fun when they bring special guests because that is when things really start pumpin hardcore! It's like that 24 hr gym. Anytime you just pump! Keep in tune to there website in case they announce any special guests.

TUES AUG 7, 2007

Coulter | site
Jason Hicks | site
Astropop 3 (acoustic) | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

perfect for wine night .

Who went to the Morrissey show last month at the Norva? If you missed it then we will be happy to make you smile with Coulter and if you made it then you will still smile with Coulter. From Seattle and pulling on a heavy Manchester influence Coulter charms you with there ever so Brit Pop style. It's music that sings about painful memories but in a every day is a new day kind of way. It's just the healing process which leads to things like The New Radicals or even Trashcan Sinatras. If you have a charm bracelet which features 7 or more hearts you've broken then you get in for free. You little heartbreaker. Jason Hicks is along for the ride and he will have to remain a surprise special as we were given a mystery without any clues.

.

TUES AUG 7, 2007

Klaxar's Focus Group presents | site
Xanadu | imdb

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $3

prisms and bungalows make peace .

this will be a mystery science theater 3000 type of event with the local comedy group Klaxar's Focus Group. The movie they will be watching is Xanadu which features Olivia Newton-John right after she blew up from Grease. As you can see some stars burn out bright. Also we are told that this film features absinthe, whatever that means. Come witness how dreams come true.

FRI AUG 10, 2007

Pomegranates | site
Yesper | site
We Are Trees | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

you mean like walk around the yard .

Opening the show with a nice soft late summer breeze will be We Are Trees. Hey that rhymes! Oh yes I am quitting to become a rapper. Pomegranates is from Cincinnati and they bear a spazzy spontaneity that our surburbia could take note on every once and awhile. Its very refreshing to see a band let go of it's structure and try on sounds in front of a crowd rather than only in the studio. It reminds us of a grunge version of Postal Service, eh maybe not grunge. Its playful but sharp. Boot says cheers to extended live performances and jeers to sounding like your cd. Yesper is probably one of the most exciting new locals to sprout in quite some time. Sometimes we hit the duldroms when certain styles aren't being done around here and we have to import just to get our craving. Ashamed are we, but Yesper is here to save us. Proud we will become. Here at the Boot we are all about Bold Moves. Which is also the name of a romance adventure film we are working on starring Tom Selleck. Look for it this Christmas.

SAT AUG 11, 2007

Jule Brown | site
Dustin Hogue | site
Dale Bartlett | site

Time: 10 pm
Tickets: $5

high fidelity dustbowl .

Jule Brown puts out a dark eerie blues rock that leans more towards the surreal and less of the rollicking bar brawling style the genre tends to produce. His style pays homage to blues legends but it would be stubborn to not mention artisits such King Crimson or The 13th Floor Elevators. It's more as if his song structure follows Muddy Waters, Porter Wagoner, or Woody Guthrie but his delivery is out there like Pink Floyd or Nazareth. We have two local songwriters on the bill who are quite young but sing as if they blew in from the dust bowl years. May they never move to the big city so we will always enjoy their talents for only $5 - Ladies and Gentlemen Mr. Dustin Hogue and Mr. Dale Bartlett.

OH YEAH!

.

MON AUG 13, 2007

Unwed Sailor | site
Lym Scrazzle | site
This Is Grow | site

Time: 8pm
Tickets: $5

waves of grain bring on the brain drain .

Yes we are open for a special Monday evening event and it will be our late night menu in effect for the entirety. Now now we know that an all instrumental show is a tough gig to pull off but first off we would like to say that even though these 3 bands do not require a vocalist their music is so entirely different from one another that it can only mean one thing. Total excitement. Yes! Did you know that before 1941 they didnt even have vocalists? Yes yes not until World War Two did we get the courage to sing out. So let us go back to yesteryear and enjoy what made our ancestors frolic around the fire. encompassing wild free form jazz to ambient hypnotic tones and onward to grunge era rock n roll. This will be the magnum opus of our Roman heritage month. Everyone will get a free grape cluster.

WED AUG 15, 2007

They Shoot Horses Don't They | site
Alina Simone | site
J Karner & the Peterson Brothers | site
Deep Sea Divers | site

Time: 9pm
Tickets: $5

quarters in my eyes make my sleep rich .

Sharp and jagged like Krypton but smooth and handsome like Kal-El. We shall say that They Shoot Horses played Relative Theory last year and we were totally stunned. While fans of their debut record we felt an understanding before the show of what was about to happen. Arise from my chair and to the front row in a dash, this did share the mark of their recording however it was more friendly and even still more boisterous. One of the best ways we have learned to describe They Shoot Horses is people hate it as background noise but if you give it your full undivided attention it's better than breakfast with the King. When they play live it will be grand - you will see, not to mention there is a guy in the band who sounds exactly like Heimlich from A Bug's Life and he is awesome! Alina Simone also played Relative Theory last year and this will be our soft opening, much like foreplay. Remember Sinead O'Connor? We do. J Karner & The Peterson Bros are on hand made from the various ashes of local rock bands, their sound is definitely a rollercoaster. And if you haven't heard of locals Deep Sea Divers get over to their myspace and listen to their one song - they have come a long way.

.

THUR AUG 16 , 2007

Man In Gray | site
Gold Streets | site
Churn | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

take a dip in Boot Fountain .

We want to say what if Brit Pop was more punky and not so melodramatic, but then are we just talking about New Wave? If Karen O. of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Elizabeth T. of Cocteau Twins worked in a cubicle who would be the first to kick over the water cooler? Okay that is too easy because Elizabeth T. would never kick anything except maybe her moped if it didnt start. Also locals Churn keep that 90s fun loving free for all going with fast driven guitars over a melodic backdrop is enough to make anyone want to eat cupcakes and drink beer. Think over-excited Dinosaur Jr. Please call your limo driver and tell them to cancel your appointment with your dog therapist. You can buy a cd at the show and play it for your pup and it will be a lot cheaper.

.

FRI AUG 17, 2007

The Private Sea | site
The Dirty Tramps | site
The Speedbumps | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

like cruising space at 25 mph .

And now we turn to the Private Sea. Fuzzy and dreamy like a tunnel underground made of velvet, oh my! Is anyone out there guessing that the Boot loves psychedelia? Seriously anything that looks like it should have been in the soundtrack for Austin Powers but was given the axe because it wasnt cheesey enough is pretty much where we are setting our sights. Actually anything that could have been in a Wes Anderson film is sure to hit our stage. Have you ever ridden the Chinatown bus and thought if you weren't surrounded by grandparents and the rap stars of tomorrow they would have to make it cheaper? That is a swell bonus for a midnight bus ride. The night starts with ear ticklers The Speedbumps and ends with roots rock of The Dirty Tramps.

.

SAT AUG 18, 2007

Pawnshop Lifters | site
Shifty | site
Dustin Hogue | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

that desert bush makes you see double .

If you have an antique truck you get $2 off your cover for this show. If your antique truck runs on bio diesel you get in free. Need to have antique plates to proove it. Boot does not believe in VINs - We believe they exist but are also very aware of chop shops. Please take note that we do have cheap whiskey here and Shoot The Boot is actually pretty good for a shooter. Best way to analyze this here show other than down home is to think of Dustin Hogue as before electricity and Pawn Shop Lifters as after electricity. Does that do it okay for ya? Guess what today is? Now give me a kiss.

.

THUR AUG 23, 2007

Carrigan | site
Yesper | site
Wild Animal Party | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

talkin nitrate free bacon, hear me .

We had Carrigan at the Boot this past March and their spacey sound reminded us of Spiritualized but with the addition of Caveman Lawyer representing a detroit E dealer in the court of law. Na mean? I do not understand your danceable rave and block rocking beats because I'm a caveman. The one thing I DO know is that Carrigan can bend and shape sounds similar to a pulsating strobe light under the seabed calling out to the children to put down their nutty buddys and nod their heads man. Oh and Yesper is a local not to be confused with the multi platinum recording artist he is yet to become. oh yes this show will be one for the ages. THE STONE AGES!

.

FRI AUG 24, 2007

Screaming Females | site
City Veins | site
Owl In the Tree | site

Time: 10pm
Tickets: $5

post boogie or new wave .

It does not really blow me away that since the music business has fallen apart, bands have risen in popularity without the help of a label and grown just through rapid infatuations on the interweb. So it leads me to believe that we will see an increase in bands (not number but just bands that can actually earn a living), an increase in labels (but not monster labels; more small collectives that promote as a team), and an increase in musical diversity. Thus bringing about a decrease in major labels, pop icons, and homogenized sound. Just listen to Screaming Females and tell me this is not the rise of the middle class. Also Owl In The Tree will start the night off and features young local Wesley Bunch and his lady, Brianna. Its like sugar free Gummi Bears. City Veins are delicious too as they bring back days of the Gin Blossoms and that my friend is a good thing. A good thing.

.

SAT AUG 25, 2007

Fight The Big Bull | site
Sonya Lorelle | site

Time: 9pm
Tickets: $5

sweet and low aint pink .

This show opens with the lovely Sonya Lorelle and finishes with Fight the Big Bull. Now I'm not a map maker but if I had to draw out directions to find a good time I could make do. You know Doumars, Ice Cream, Bar-b-que - Bang a left! The Boot has good food and on nights like this you are easily tricked into thinking it is the best cuisine in all the land. The music is sultry like hot plantanes off a stoneworker's grill. Is this possible? Just so you know this will be an extra special event for Fight The Big Bull as they will be doing several Weezer covers on this night as they pay homage to their childhood roots. Man high school was so easy. Why did we have to graduate?

.

TUES AUG 28, 2007

Patrick Cleandenim | site

Time: 9pm
Tickets: $5

a little salt on the floor please .

Sounds like Orchestral Pop! is what I read on this young gentleman's myspace page and really when I listen to this early Hollywood fondu of late nights, myspace seems like such a foul play for a first meeting. I suppose I should not complain for maybe we never would have met. On this night we will have a booth set up with Elton John making macaroni necklaces for the ladies and we hope to see them sway across the dance floor. Your only excuse to miss this show is a Make Room For Daddy marathon on Nick at Nite. Ladies you know...

.

THUR AUG 30, 2007

Hoots and Hellmouth | site
Frank Willow Band | site

Time: 9pm
Tickets: $5

good times great taste .

You'd have thought we were building a railroad the last time Hoots hit the Boot but in these post modern times you can't sing your worksong until after you've clocked out. Either way we are escatic to bring this kind of soul back to the area. James (Boot employee) seems to think Brendan (Boot Chef) and the Devil (Lucifer of the Underworld) had this cook off over in Park Place. Seems strange and hard to believe not to mention his story is filled with holes but regardless Brendan (Boot Chef) won the competition and now the Devil is sous. Its a mighty hard road this poor hand has hoed. My poor feet has traveled a hot dusty road. Out of your Dust Bowl and Westward we rolled. And your deserts was hot and your mountains was cold.

This is will be a good show and we are calling in Frank Willow for the clincher. Be there if you wish to see the Devil go down. Beelzebub, I'm talking to you.
