This weekend is going to be very similar to a pizza party to which we mean pizza parties are always fun and we are saying this weekend will be fun. Pool parties are also fun and we dont want to leave those out. So we would like to say that we are most excited about The Donkeys playing the Boot. We know the name is misleading but truly they are a special breed. Everything else is good as well. The Champioship is one of those things were you run out afterwards and get married or something and wake up with a smile saying last night was wild. A couple of other things are in the works to make this summer a delicious affair. The downtown MacArthur 5 Points Farmer's Market is officially open and in July it will be running Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Things are off to a great start and you already see how what you support can grow into something exciting. We know the 5 Points Cooking class is still waiting in the wing and we might be able to kick it off with a Food Network Star but we wont say too much more about that now. Also we are planning another film series but this will be anounced once our professional projection equipment is installed. Lastly we would like to say that lunch is moving along swimmingly and if we can keep this up through the summer we will celebrate this meal 6 days a week instead of 4. And remember, be sure to come in for dinner and try our new summer menu!

you know those swinging double saloon doors with the slatted wood? well i think we are going to do away with the front door and just have those instead. we will get some giant door that covers the front like a shutter for security purposes but during business hours we’ll just be open to the wild. fans blowing no a/c - who’s with me. June 28th 9 pm - be there.

freedom fighters in disguise .

okay so one time i was at Home Depot buying some wood that I could not get at my local mom and pop and over the intercom stereo came the sound of the Jayhawks. I exclaimed what the hell is this? you corporate sniffing hippies have bugged out another great gem, I’m out of here, so I left and figured out another way to build what i needed. all these musicians scrambling over ways to get paid as the industry collapses. It’s just sad. Anyways Palominos from Richmond along with locals CC and the Giants will take you on the sweet ride only influencing you on the beer you choose and not your nail gun.

just like nutty buddys we will rule .

Norfolk is in need of some synergy and we here at the Boot feel like this is just the show to do it. A little over a year ago the one man show of Casiotone For the Painfully Alone played a Daytrotter session with The Donkeys and it was then Owen Ashworth decided he was to hit the rode with this group of banished horses. The sound they have put together is a rough rolling free livin psyche pop. CFTPA is known prior for his analog style minimal electro pop but with the Donkeys it becomes something entirely new. Not to mention we have some of the same inception right here in the ol' Tidewater. Koala Kong is budding with fuzzed out electronics that grip you at the wrist and swing you like a child. If you have long hair we'll be handing out little motorized fans to simulate a restaurant cruising down a beautiful stretch in the road. yeah.

snow cone will be my bounty .

We here at Relative Theory and The Boot have done a great deal in celebration of this community and Hampton Roads, but alas it seems we’ve forgotten to really honor this great nation we live in. So not to be mistaken for Anti-Federalists, we’re opening The Boot Monday July 2nd (that’s right, Monday) for a special Boot Almost Independence Day Extravaganza! Headlining the festival will be Chris Staples’ (ex-twothirtyeight) appropriately named indie rock act Discover America. Discover America hails from Seattle with cool americana indie-rock with roots in Yo La Tengo, Neil Young, and a little bit of Weezer. They played Relative Theory a year and a half ago and made a great night for the 85 people that came out, so don’t miss your second chance to catch this wonderful act. Traveling with Discover America is Ohio’s State Bird, playing multi-instrumental pop in the vein of Islands and Unicorns. I am yet to experience them live but judging by their myspace I am very excited. More details to come on specific aspects of the extravaganza (will their be prizes? Barbecue? Sno-Cones? Fireworks? Revolutionary War Reenacments? Who knows! We plan last-minute at The Boot!). So clear your monday night plans, because if you don’t show up to this, not only have you missed out, but everyone will know that You, yes you, Hate America.

“The Boot Almost Independence Day Extravaganza! is the best idea to come from Virginia ever! That and the three-cornered hat…we did invent the three cornered hat, right? Man, what a great hat.” -George Washington (not Carver), a Founding Father

redemption for those in the spirit world .

We are ordering smoke machines for this show. plus i have these fancy beaded jackets for the servers to wear. they are cute and to top it off we are going to rub the bar down with coppertone to give it that sexy summer scent. It's called the Mumie's Curse! Has anyone even seen Dazed and Confused recently because I am thinking the Boot is the Moontower. Should we change our name? This will be a rollicking good time a whimsical rock and heartfelt ballads. Each one of these bands is a premium win from a hard fought battle of negotiations. Music starts with The Naked Gods at 9pm - don't be late.
